Sony's first-party studio Media Molecule, the developer behind Dreams and LittleBigPlanet, is working on a brand-new, unannounced IP that includes "open-world content.”

The details:

  • As spotted by MP1st, the portfolio of an environment artist at the studio describes an “unannounced project, New IP,” with the developer acting as “feature owner, main contact/vision holder of various open-world content,” and is responsible for “level blocking out main POIs, moment-to-moment gameplay, forage design, and scripting various gameplay elements.”
  • Back in 2023, Media Molecule ended support for Dreams, its PS4 game creation platform, which was followed by a change in management and layoffs that saw around 20% of its workforce let go. In 2024, following his departure from the studio, co-founder Mark Healy discussed its next game, confirming rumors of it working on a new IP, adding that it could be viewed as “more of a game than a creative tool.”
  • It’s unknown how far in development the project is, and while PlayStation has announced a new State of Play showcase for June 2, there have been no rumors surrounding the game’s potential appearance.
