It has been claimed that Insomniac Games’ Wolverine is targeted for a 2026 release following a long hiatus, with the studio’s Venom spin-off project said to still be in development.

The details:

  • In late 2023, Insomniac fell victim to one of the largest data breaches and leaks in gaming history, resulting in widespread leaks of employee information, internal documents about its upcoming projects, and even playable builds of its unreleased games. This resulted in the cancellation of some projects at the studio, notably three pieces of DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which centered around Carnage, Beetle, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
  • Among the documents was a full product roadmap, which stated that the developer’s Wolverine title, originally announced in 2021, would be targeting a 2026 release. According to reliable news outlet MP1st, an anonymous source has said that Insomniac is sticking to its original timeline despite the leak, with Marvel’s Wolverine arriving next year.
  • The report also states that the studio’s Spider-Man spin-off focused on Venom is still in the works but is likely still in pre-production due to resources being dedicated to Wolverine. MP1st has shared that a less trusted source has claimed that the game’s protagonist will be Eddie Brock and that serial killer Cletus Kasady will make an appearance as Carnage, with a comic-inspired Anti-Venom also being included.
