After payment processors pressured Valve and Itch(.)io to remove NSFW games from their respective storefronts, retro-focused platform ZOOM Platform has revealed that the movement could affect more popular titles like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row in the future.

The details:

  • In July, Valve revealed that it had been forced to delist NSFW titles from Steam due to pressure from payment providers such as PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard, as the content of the games violated their terms of service. This was followed by a similar situation with Itch, which has since relisted free NSFW games on its platform. Australian political movement group Collective Shout has since taken responsibility for contacting the payment providers, stating that the plan is to tackle games that objectify and glorify violence against women.
  • In a new statement spotted by GamingOnLinux, ZOOM Platform, a storefront that offers various retro titles, has shared that it has spoken with PayPal and Stripe regarding the content on its platform after a "fellow member of the industry" had contacted one of its partners. The company has stated that it has no plans to delist any of its games and that due to users running into issues with its current payment processors, it is exploring alternate payment options and introducing a wallet system and two-factor authentication.
  • An anonymous employee at ZOOM also shared in an email to GamingOnLinux that it expects the current situation surrounding payment processors to grow much larger and begin to affect more popular mainstream titles. This includes Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row, which are said to be โ€œat riskโ€ should Collective Shoutโ€™s campaign continue.
