Gearbox shares Borderlands 4 optimization guide after performance issues impact PC players

Borderlands 4 has arrived this week, and while many fans are praising the game’s improvement over its predecessor, PC players have unfortunately run into major performance issues, prompting Gearbox to share a new optimization guide in an attempt to address the widespread problem.

The details:

  • Borderlands 4 launched on Thursday to generally positive reviews from both critics and players. However, the game currently holds a “Mixed” review score on Steam, with the majority of negative reviews complaining about its poor technical performance, even on high-end PC hardware. This includes low frame rates, stuttering, and even outright crashes.
  • Gearbox has since posted a guide to optimizing the game on PCs with NVIDIA GPUs, covering settings in the NVIDIA app and Borderlands 4 itself. The company added that players should also play for 15 minutes after changing any graphics settings in order to test for any notable changes in performance and allow shaders to recompile.
  • Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has also responded to the complaints, stating that the game’s day one patch “does a lot,” but that fans should expect it to be “unplayable” if their system fails to meet the minimum requirements. Despite this, players are still reporting issues with performance.
