Final Fantasy XVI profile found in latest Nvidia driver, fueling speculation that a PC release is coming soon
A settings profile for Final Fantasy XVI has been discovered in the latest driver for Nvidia graphics cards, leading many to believe that the long-awaited PC port will be released in the near future.
The details:
Square Enix confirmed that a PC version of FF16 was in the works ahead of the game's release as a limited-time PS5 exclusive in June 2023. Although the exclusivity period ended six months after its launch, producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed it would not be available immediately, only nearing the "final stages of optimization" in March of this year.
With the release of Nvidia's GeForce Game Ready Driver version 560.81, Reddit users discovered that it includes two FF16 profiles as well as a demo version of the game. Despite not announcing a release date for the port, Nvidia works directly with developers to ensure games run smoothly on its hardware, implying that an announcement and launch are coming soon.
Itβs possible that the port will be announced at Gamescom in late August, as Yoshida will be present at the event. Although his attendance is most likely tied to the recent release of FF14's Dawntrail expansion, the FF16 demo could be released later this month ahead of the full release, similarly to the FF7 Remake's PC port.
