Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is coming to mobile in September

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, a reimagining of the Compilation of FF7 story, will be released next month for iOS and Android.

The details:

• Square Enix announced on Twitter that pre-registrations for the game, which will be released on September 7, 2023, are now open on its official website. The game will be free to play, but there will be microtransactions in the form of lootboxes containing weapons and outfits. It's unclear how much of an impact the additional purchases will have on the overall experience, but fans are hoping for little more than cosmetic items.
• The game itself is an episodic retelling of the larger FF7 story. The stories of the original FF7 and its prequel Crisis Core, for example, are condensed to their most important plot points, and spin-offs Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, The First Soldier, and Before Crisis are also included.
• It will include a new combat system reminiscent of the original FF7's active-time battle system, with playable characters able to execute attacks and other actions once a bar is full. In addition to its single-player story content, the game will include an online multiplayer mode that will allow players to team up against a variety of bosses found in the title's missions.
