Epic Games Store database reportedly leaks, listing Final Fantasy IX remake, Red Dead Redemption, and more
EpicDB, a third-party database containing listings from the backend of the Epic Games Store, has reportedly leaked several unannounced games before being taken offline.
The details:
EpicDB, which is similar to SteamDB in that it pulls accurate player numbers, price history, listings, and other information from Steam's API, was released yesterday for the EGS. However, it was quickly discovered that several unannounced games and DLCs were listed on the website.
Some games were listed as codenames, but some fans on Reddit and ResetEra were able to figure out what the projects actually were. For example, what appears to be a Final Fantasy IX remake could be found under the codename "Momo," with pre-order bonuses referencing the in-game card game Tetra Master. The codename "Utah" has also been revealed to be the reported The Last of Us 2 PC port.
Although some listings, such as Morrowind and an unannounced Turok game, appear to be genuine, others, such as "Bloodborne Remake," have been identified as likely fake. This is believed to be similar to Steam hosting fake versions of Helldivers 2 earlier this year.
EpicDB has been taken offline following Epic's update to prevent third-party sites from collecting private data. "We released an update tonight so third-party tools can't surface any new unpublished product titles from the Epic Games Store catalog," an Epic Games spokesperson said in a statement to Eurogamer.
