Embracer CEO is refusing to comment on the status of the Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Embracer Group boss Lars Wingefors has refused to comment on rumors regarding the potential cancellation of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake after Sony began removing content relating to the title.

During a recent earnings call (via Axios’ Stephen Totilo), Wingefors was asked for his feelings regarding the highly anticipated remake, which was announced back in 2021. Instead of providing an update, whether positive or negative, he declined to respond, stating, "I notice that anything I say to this becomes a headline, so that is my only comment." This is the second time the CEO has declined to comment on the project this year.
It appears that the reports of the game being canned may be correct after all, with issues regarding its development dating back to early 2022. Originally developed by Aspyr Media, Saber Interactive, another Embracer subsidiary, stepped in to assist in May 2022, with an indefinite delay reported just months later as Aspyr was said to have dropped the project.
In September 2023, it was discovered that Sony had privated the remake's announcement trailer and removed several tweets about it from its official X account. This was interpreted as confirmation that it was dead, but Sony later claimed that the trailer was removed due to music licensing issues, which many fans dismissed.
Given Embracer's ongoing restructuring program, which has resulted in roughly 900 employees losing their jobs in the last three months, we could see a formal announcement about the game's cancellation very soon, along with additional layoffs.
