EA's upcoming Battlefield title could see controversial move alienate its player base

DICE has revealed a major overhaul to the class system in Battlefield 6, introducing “Training Paths” that add progression, passive bonuses, and single-use abilities for each class during a match. However, the decision to keep all weapons available to all classes has reignited a familiar debate within the Battlefield community.

The details:

  • Each class now features two branching upgrade tracks, with three in-match progression levels. Players start at Level 0 with a basic stat boost, while Levels 1 and 2 unlock teamplay-driven passives. Level 3 grants a single-use ability.

  • Despite new class perks, any weapon can still be used by any class, undermining traditional class identities and co-dependency. This controversial decision is being tested in Battlefield Labs ahead of release.

  • According to reports, EA is pushing for these changes in an effort to reduce barriers and attract a wider audience. With ambitions of reaching 100 million players, Battlefield 6 is being shaped with accessibility as a top priority, even if it risks compromising the series’ core identity cherished by longtime fans.
