Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is coming to Switch 2, Game-Key Card physical release confirmed

It has been announced that the upcoming Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, it has been confirmed that the physical release will use a Game-Key Card, which will require players to download the game.
The details:
As announced in a post to X, the remake will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, the original Switch, and now, the Switch 2, on October 30. Pre-orders are currently open and come with a variety of in-game items at launch, including a pair of elevating shoes and several seeds that provide permanent stat boosts.
A $149.99 Collector's Edition has also been revealed, which includes a physical version of the game for Xbox, PS5, or either Switch console; a set of acrylic blocks depicting various logos, characters, and enemies; and the "Outstanding Outfit Kit" in-game item set.
Square Enix has announced that players who saved data from last year's Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will receive early access to certain in-game items as a bonus, though these items can still be found normally.
However, Square has confirmed that the Switch 2 version will be released on the new controversial "Game-Key Card" cartridge. The cartridge itself contains no game data and functions as a physical download key for digital games, allowing it to be resold unlike a traditional one-time-use code. The majority of third-party Switch 2 releases appear to use Game-Key Cards, with the exception of Cyberpunk 2077, which includes both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion on a single standard cartridge.
