Call of Duty will now close itself when a mouse and keyboard player uses aim assist

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, III, and Warzone will now close if it detects a mouse or keyboard user using tools to activate aim assist, which is only available to controllers.

The details:

• Activision has confirmed that the new feature has been integrated into its Ricochet anti-cheat system for the two most recent COD titles, as well as Warzone. “Our security detection systems now target players using tools to activate aim assist while using a mouse and keyboard,” said @CODUpdates. “The Call of Duty application will close if detected. Repeated use of these tools may lead to further account action.”

• Aim assist, a feature found in the majority of console shooter games, assists controller players in tracking their opponents as analog sticks lack the speed and accuracy of a mouse. When using a mouse and keyboard control scheme in-game, the feature is officially disabled entirely, which is necessary given MW3's particularly strong aim assist.

• Some players have used software to create a virtual controller, giving them access to aim assist, to trick COD into thinking that a mouse and keyboard are controllers. Activision strongly opposes such methods, having implemented security measures against hardware such as XIM devices, which players have used to activate anti-recoil scripts.
