Infinity Ward has announced that its next Call of Duty title will be another entry in the Modern Warfare series, following rumors of MW4 being in the works.

The details:

  • On social media, studio heads Mark Grigsby and Jack O’Hara confirmed that the franchise creators are working on the “definitive Modern Warfare,” which will launch later this year.
  • Not much has been officially revealed about the game, but it will be the first entry in the series for Infinity Ward since 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, following on from Sledgehammer’s Modern Warfare 3 and back-to-back Black Ops releases from Treyarch.
  • One thing we do know is that “MW4” will be the first game since the launch of current-generation consoles that will not be released on PS4 and Xbox One. This decision was met with general praise from fans, as many saw the last-generation ports as a hindrance for the franchise to take advantage of more powerful hardware.
