Quantic Dream scraps Spellcasters Chronicles, confirms Star Wars Eclipse is still in the works

Quantic Dream is shutting down its first multiplayer live‑service game, Spellcasters Chronicles, just three months after its early access launch and will reorganize the studio while insisting that development on Star Wars Eclipse is unaffected.

The details:

  • Spellcasters Chronicles, a free‑to‑play 3v3 MOBA that launched in early access in February, failed to attract enough players to be sustainable, with SteamDB showing a launch peak of 888 concurrent players dropping to double-digit player counts in recent months.
  • Due to the low player numbers, the game will be brought offline on June 19, 2026, but will be playable until then. Quantic Dream has also confirmed that any and all in-game purchases will be open to refunds upon request.
  • As part of the decision, Quantic Dream will undergo an “internal reorganization” and has signaled that layoffs are likely, though it has not yet disclosed how many staff will be affected. However, the studio stresses that Star Wars Eclipse, its narrative‑driven action‑adventure set in the High Republic era, “is not affected by this decision and continues as planned,” making use of resources previously assigned to Spellcaster Chronicles.
