Destiny 2 will no longer receive content updates after June, Bungie reportedly to undergo significant layoffs

Bungie has announced that support for Destiny 2 is winding down in the summer as it turns to focus on other projects, but it has been claimed that the studio is planning to make major job cuts as a result.

The details:

  • As announced via Bungie.net, Destiny 2’s final content update, Monument of Triumph, will arrive on June 9. The update will “deliver a collection of love letters to players across all activity types within Destiny 2,” with some inclusions requested by players over the years and others originally intended for future content drops.
  • While the game will not receive any new content beyond June 9, it will remain playable for the foreseeable future. Despite being almost 12 years old, the original Destiny is still online to this day, and it appears that Bungie intends to keep its sequel alive for a while with the final update intended to make Destiny 2 a “welcoming place for players to return to.”
  • In a new report from Bloomberg, it is claimed that Bungie will undergo "significant" layoffs in the near future following the conclusion of Destiny 2’s development. Currently, the studio is supporting its latest release, Marathon, which has gotten off to a solid start, but it’s said that a new mainline Destiny game is not in active development.
