Hasbro has cancelled the single‑player Dungeons & Dragons action‑adventure game in development at Giant Skull, a studio headed by Star Wars Jedi and God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen.

The details:

  • The game, an Unreal Engine 5 single‑player action‑adventure set in the D&D universe, was revealed in June 2025 as a partnership between Giant Skull and Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast. The project was set to be the first major project from Giant Skull, which was founded in 2024 by Asmussen following his departure from EA’s Respawn Entertainment.
  • As reported by Bloomberg, Wizards of the Coast is said to have quietly terminated the publishing deal earlier this year, which was later confirmed by a company spokesperson. “We assess concepts at every stage of development,” the spokesperson said. “While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.”
  • Asmussen has confirmed that things are “good” at the studio despite the project being scrapped, with the developer now in contact with Wizards of the Coast and other companies regarding new publishing partnerships. Meanwhile, other Dungeons & Dragons projects, such as Invoke’s Warlock and sci‑fi RPG Exodus, are still in the works and targeting 2027 launches.
