After Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford’s controversial response to fans defending $80 price tags for games, it has been revealed that Borderlands 4 will instead retail for $70 with various special editions available.

The details:

  • Last month, Pitchford responded to a fan asking for Borderlands 4 not to be priced at $80, which is becoming increasingly common among AAA releases. The CEO defended the idea of the high price point, arguing that “real fans” would find a way to purchase the game regardless of its cost, resulting in backlash from the gaming community. He later explained that with the rising costs of game development, price increases are likely, but that he did not know the cost of Borderlands 4 personally.

  • Weeks later, Gearbox has now revealed that the game’s standard edition costs $70 on all platforms. Fans can also pick up the “Super Deluxe Edition” for $130, which contains future DLC and other digital bonus content such as unique skins. A $150 Collector’s Edition is also available, which includes a statue of ECHO-4, a Vault Hunter symbol necklace, a map of Kairos, and four double-sided lithograph art prints, but not a copy of the game itself.

  • Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12 across PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will follow a similar looter shooter formula as past entries, though its narrative director has said that it will feature less toilet and meme humor, hopefully keeping its comedic elements more relevant in years to come.
