Asus has released a new teaser for its next generation of handheld gaming PCs, but it appears to be related to Xbox's handheld plans, with the company responding to the trailer.

The details:

  • Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed in late 2024 that the company intended to develop an Xbox-branded handheld to provide a more portable Xbox-like experience than rival devices such as Valve's Steam Deck. Last month, it was reported that Microsoft was currently collaborating with an undisclosed PC gaming OEM and plans to release the system this year.

  • Based on a new teaser video, ROG Ally manufacturer Asus may be the mysterious company collaborating with Microsoft. During the video, ROG's adorable robot mascot "Omni" is seen applying various "upgrades" using a machine, while a ROG Ally and the company's "Raikiri" controller, which is notably compatible with Xbox and PC, are fused with Omni. This suggests that the new device could be Xbox's "Project Keenan" system, which is said to include Xbox branding and various handheld-specific UI improvements for Windows 11.

  • As spotted by Eurogamer, Xbox's official X account has since responded to Asus's post with the popular meme of a monkey giving the camera a suspicious side-eye, seemingly confirming its involvement in some way.
