Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows has been pushed back to February 2025 to allow more time to polish the game following the "softer than expected launch" of Star Wars Outlaws.

The details:

  • The publisher announced the delay on X, confirming that it will now be released on February 14, 2025 rather than November 15. Ubisoft blamed the delay on a "softer than expected launch for Star Wars Outlaws," and stated that while Shadows is feature complete, the "learnings" from Outlaws' launch will be used to further polish the title.

  • Shadows will now be released on Steam simultaneously with Ubisoft Connect on PC, and it appears that Ubisoft's future titles will also return to day one Steam releases.

  • Ubisoft has also confirmed that the game will no longer feature the franchise's traditional season pass model, and that those who pre-order will receive its first expansion for free. Existing pre-orders have been automatically canceled by Ubisoft, so those interested need to pre-order the game again on their preferred platform.

  • The publisher has also dismissed claims that Sucker Punch’s recent reveal of Ghost of Yōtei, a follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, played a part in the delay due to their similar settings. “I would like to say that there’s a lot of space for very high quality games, and those two games can sell very well,” CEO Yves Guillemot said in a conference call (via Eurogamer). “On the competition relative to Assassin's Creed Shadows, the focus is really to make sure we deliver a fantastic experience, and with the game's dual protagonist approach, with two different and complementary gameplays with Yasuke and Naoe, and the setting taking place in feudal Japan - that should be really enticing.”
