Palworld is out now on PS5, but its Japan release has been postponed
Palworld has finally made its way to the PS5, following its massive successful PC and Xbox launch earlier this year. However, Nintendo's ongoing legal battle with its developer Pocketpair may have delayed the game's release in Japan.
The details:
The long-awaited PS5 version of the game was announced during the latest State of Play, and it is now available for purchase in 68 countries. The release comes after months of rumors and speculation, including hints from the game's community manager and PlayStation's head of indies, Shuhei Yoshida.
Despite its global release, the PS5 version of the game is currently unavailable in Japan. The Japanese Palworld X account has apologized to fans for the delay and confirmed that no release date has been set as of yet. “The release date in Japan has not yet been decided,” it wrote. “We apologize to everyone in Japan who was looking forward to it, but all of our staff will do our best to deliver it to PS5 users as soon as possible, so we hope you will wait for a little longer.”
While the reason for the delay has not been officially revealed, it is most likely related to Pocketpair's legal battle with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, which was made public last week. The companies claim that Palworld has infringed on several of their patents and are now seeking an "injunction against infringement and compensation for damages." Pocketpair responded to the lawsuit, stating that it was unaware of which patents it had allegedly infringed, but that it intends to fight the claims.
