Alone in the Dark reboot studio Pieces Interactive has shut down
Pieces Interactive, the developer behind the recent reboot of Alone in the Dark, has confirmed that it has closed its doors under Embracer Group following a round of layoffs earlier this year.
The details:
As spotted by IGN, the studio's website has been updated with a thank you message, a section about the studio's history, and a date range of 2007 to 2024. "In 2017, Pieces Interactive were acquired by Embracer Group after working with the expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Ragnarรถk and third expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Atlantis," the studio wrote. "Our last release was the reimagining of Alone in the Dark."
In April, shortly after the release of Alone in the Dark, the developer was hit by a wave of layoffs that affected its QA team. Embracer made no public statement about the cuts, but revealed the following month that the game did not meet the company's commercial expectations in its quarterly financial report.
Since June 2023, Embracer has closed and sold several studios and laid off thousands of employees after a $2 billion partnership with Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games Group fell through. Notably, Volition and Free Radical, the developers of Saints Row and TimeSplitters, closed their doors, while Embracer sold Gearbox and Saber Interactive earlier this year for a total of more than $700 million.
