Ubisoft provides a brief update on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake
Ubisoft has decided to release a very short update regarding its remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, confirming that it is still in development.
The details:
Originally announced in 2020, the remake of the 2003 title The Sands of Time has had a rocky development, first being delayed indefinitely in 2021, and then being entirely rebooted internally after being handed over to Ubisoft Mumbai to the company's main Montreal studio earlier this year.
Following the project's return to the "conception" phase, producer Jean-Francois Naud stated that fans "should not expect to hear more about the game this year," but surprisingly, an update has been provided on X alongside a post commemorating the original game's 20th anniversary. “As you know, the passionate team at Ubisoft Montreal is reimagining this legendary story, and we are glad to announce today that the project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing,” the post reads. “We look forward to sharing more in the future!”
Although we're likely to hear nothing more about the game for the rest of the year, the brief update has some hoping for a bigger announcement at The Game Awards in December. We'll just have to hope that the project doesn't end up being another case of a Ubisoft game never being released, like Skull and Bones.
