Prince of Persia remake developer Ubisoft Toronto hit with layoffs
The studio announced it had joined the project last month.
Ubisoft has announced that it is laying off 33 developers at its Toronto studio just weeks after joining the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake project.

The publisher confirmed the layoffs in a statement to PC Gamer, stating that the decision to cut 33 positions was part of a "targeted realignment" to achieve its goals. “Ubisoft Toronto has decided to conduct a targeted realignment to ensure it can deliver on its ambitious roadmap,” Ubisoft said. “Unfortunately, this will impact the roles of 33 team members who will be leaving Ubisoft. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to them, including severance and career assistance, to help through this transition.”
In early June 2024, Ubisoft Toronto announced that it had joined the Sands of Time remake development team, assisting Ubisoft Montreal. The Montreal studio took over the project last year and was entirely rebooted after being delayed multiple times by the publisher's Mumbai and Pune teams following its reveal in 2020. The title is now set for a 2026 release.
Since 2022, Ubisoft has laid off over a thousand employees, including up to 60 UK and US-based customer service staff in May 2023, 124 job losses across its Canadian studios in November, and another 45 cuts in its publishing and APAC teams in April 2024.
