Ubisoft has revealed that a wave of layoffs has hit its Toronto studio but confirmed that the Splinter Cell remake has not been scrapped and that development will continue.

The details:

  • The publisher shared that 40 employees have been affected by the cuts, representing around 8% of the studio’s total workforce. “This decision was not taken lightly and does not in any way reflect the talent, dedication, or contributions of the individuals affected,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to MobileSyrup. “Our priority now is to support them through this transition with comprehensive severance packages and robust career placement assistance.”
  • Despite the layoffs, the remake of the original Splinter Cell, which was announced in 2021, will remain in development at the Toronto studio. In an internal email, the company confirmed that the Watch Dogs Legion developer will remain “a key contributor to several codev mandates and service teams.”
  • This is the latest wave of job cuts at Ubisoft as part of its restructuring that has seen its teams and projects split into “Creative Houses,” focusing on different areas. The company announced that it had cancelled several games, including its Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, delayed seven more titles, and proposed laying off up to 200 employees at its Paris headquarters.
