Ubisoft has reappointed David Grivel as the new game director for its Splinter Cell remake, who previously served as game director on the project until late 2022 before leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

The details:

  • Grivel confirmed his return via a LinkedIn post, describing the remake as "a very special team and project.” The director left Ubisoft Toronto in October 2022, originally joining the Splinter Cell Remake team in November of the previous year, having already worked on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, and past entries in the Splinter Cell series at Ubisoft’s studios in Toronto and Paris.
  • The Splinter Cell remake was officially confirmed in December 2021 and is being rebuilt using the Snowdrop engine that powers titles such as The Division 2. The game itself is being updated for a modern audience with gameplay changes, fresh visuals, and a newly written story adapted from the original 2002 title.
  • Not much else has been revealed about the title beyond some concept art that was released in 2022 depicting protagonist Sam Fisher and various locations. However, Ubisoft stated that the project was “very early” in production, meaning that it is likely still a good few years away.
