Todd Howard says Arkane Lyon are "doing a really, really great job" on Marvel's Blade amid studio closure fears

Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard has offered a rare positive update on Marvel's Blade, describing development at Arkane Lyon as going well.

The details:

  • Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Howard said he saw footage of the game recently and that "the folks at Arkane are doing a really, really great job." He did not share further specifics about the game's content or a release window.
  • The update comes weeks after Xbox confirmed the closure of Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, and Double Fine on June 16, as part of what insiders describe as a structural reset under new Xbox head Asha Sharma - one that has disproportionately targeted single-player studios whose games are critically praised but do not drive mass Game Pass growth.
  • Arkane Lyon fits that profile closely. The studio's last release was Deathloop in 2021, and reports had emerged of staff there fearing the studio could be next on the closure list, with journalist Jeff Grubb initially putting the probability of Marvel's Blade cancellation at around 70% before walking the claim back.
  • The game - a single-player, story-driven action-adventure following Eric Brooks battling vampires across Paris - was also absent from the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, which fuelled further speculation about its status.
  • Howard's comments, alongside a recent message from one of the game's lead concept artists urging fans to "let us cook," suggest development is continuing without major disruption, though Xbox has yet to make any official statement about Arkane Lyon's future.
