Microsoft has announced that after July 29, 2024, players will no longer be able to purchase any content from the Xbox 360 marketplace, both on the web and on an Xbox 360 console.

In a new Xbox Wire blog post, the company confirmed that the ability to purchase content directly from the store will be unavailable beginning on July 29, 2024, though those who continue to use the system can still access and redownload all previously purchased games, apps, and other content, and that it will not affect the multiplayer modes of any games that still offer their online services.
Despite the shutdown of the older service, Xbox 360 titles and DLC that are playable via backward compatibility on the Xbox One, Series X/S, or the main Xbox web store will remain available. Microsoft also stated that backward compatibility has been updated to allow for increased frame rates, the addition of Auto HDR, and the reduction of loading times without requiring changes to the games themselves.
The Microsoft Movies & TV app will also be shut down on the same day, but all purchased content will still be available in the Movies & TV app for Xbox One, Series X/S, and PC.
Although the Xbox 360 has been out for over 18 years and the shutdown of some of its online services is to be expected, it has raised concerns about the preservation of some digital-only titles that have yet to be ported to other platforms or added to the backward compatibility program.
