Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the fastest-selling Mario game of all time
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the fastest-selling game in the Super Mario franchise's history, according to Nintendo, shifting over four million units worldwide.
The details:
During its recent financial results briefing for the second quarter (via VGC), Nintendo revealed that Wonder sold over 4.3 million units worldwide in its first two weeks on the market, making it the fastest-selling game in the series since it began collecting sales data back in the DS/Wii era.
The company also stated that it expects the game to continue to sell a significant number of copies in the future as "Super Mario-related titles also tend to sell consistently over a long period of time," and that it will be an "appealing choice" for holiday gifts.
Wonder's success is thought to have been aided by the massively successful release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this year, which became the highest-grossing release of 2023 until Barbie took the spot months later. With rumors of Nintendo's next console arriving next year, the Switch era is also coming to an end, so consoles are now more affordable than ever for first-time buyers.
More Nintendo news:
Nintendo has denied reports that it showed off its next console at Gamescom and that it has briefed developers on its future plans, calling the claims "inaccurate".
Nintendo has announced that it is collaborating with Arad Productions to create a live-action Legend of Zelda film. Sony Pictures and Nintendo are co-financing the film, which will be directed by Wes Ball, who was behind the Maze Runner trilogy.
