Nintendo denies reports of showing off its next console and briefing developers on its plans
Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, has denied reports that the company has shown its upcoming Switch successor behind closed doors, as well as claims that it has briefed Activision Blizzard on its future plans.
The details:
Furukawa, according to Japanese publication Mainichi, dismissed previous reports about its future console release as "inaccurate" during a recent earnings call. It's also claimed that he denied rumors about a patent for a dual-screen device, stating that just because the patent was filed doesn't mean it'll be used in the future.
In the past, Nintendo has dismissed claims made by reports that turned out to be true weeks, if not days later, so an announcement could come soon. This includes denying that it was working on a 3DS redesign just a day before announcing the 3DS XL, as well as denying that the Wii U would be discontinued less than two weeks before.
Nintendo's next console is said to be a significant step up from the Switch, utilizing Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technology to enable raytracing, with the reported showcase at Gamescom 2023 featuring Epic Games' Matrix tech demo, which was used to demonstrate the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Developers are said to have received development kits earlier this year, with a release window of the second half of 2024.
