Nintendo announces a Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct is coming on August 31

Nintendo has confirmed that a Nintendo Direct focused on the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be held on August 31, providing fans with an in-depth look at the upcoming platformer.

The details:

• The company announced the livestream on its social media accounts, and it will be broadcast on Nintendo's official YouTube channels at 7am PT / 3pm BST, lasting approximately 15 minutes. Nintendo has not shared much about what we'll see, but fans can expect a short playthrough of a level, a closer look at its new powerups, such as the Wonder Flower and Elephant Mario, and new music.
• Fans should not expect to hear any lines from legendary actor Charles Martinet, however, who recently announced that he will no longer be voicing Mario and other Nintendo characters in future titles beginning with Wonder. Although the game's reveal trailer in June featured voice lines from Mario's new actor, the Direct is likely to give us a better idea of how the iconic character will sound in the future.
• Wonder will be released as a Switch exclusive on October 20 and will be the first original 2D Mario platformer since 2012's New Super Mario Bros. U, which was later ported to the Switch in 2019. Nintendo appears to be hoping that the title will be one of, if not the, biggest release on the platform this year, following the massively successful Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this year.
