Square Enix announces collaboration with Japanese TV network TBS Television to create a new gaming IP

Square Enix has announced a partnership with Tokyo-based TV network TBS Television to create a new global gaming IP.
The details:
In a new press release, the Final Fantasy developer announced that it is collaborating with the Takeshi's Castle and Ultraman broadcaster to create an original video game IP that will be released internationally. While no further details about the project have been revealed, Square Enix has stated that it is part of its ongoing plans to create more original IPs. Meanwhile, TBS, which founded TBS Games in 2023, is also attempting to create more IPs based on its own video games.
Square revealed its new medium-term business plan in May 2024, stating that it would release more multiplatform titles in response to the disappointing sales figures of PS5 exclusives Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI. With the shift, it stated that it would now create fewer games, but of higher quality than ever before.
The company recently confirmed in a financial report that it is still committed to the plan, which will last until 2027. It added that it is now establishing a "mid- to long-term pipeline to achieve a shift from quantity to quality," and that it will focus on "major titles mainly in key IP" after the plan concludes. Square also stated that it canceled several "incompatible" projects last year and has "implemented measures to improve profitability" for its live-service games.
