A prominent leaker has claimed that Rockstar intends to release an updated version of Grand Theft Auto IV for current-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles, followed by Max Payne 3.

The details:

  • Posting to GTAForums, dataminer and leaker Tez2 claimed that "someone at Rockstar hinted" at a GTA 4 port, which should have "gone up a year in development." They added that this is most likely why Rockstar blocked the release of the fan-made Liberty City Preservation Project mod earlier this year, which was supposed to bring GTA 4's Liberty City to GTA 5's updated engine.

  • According to the insider, the port could be released as early as later this year. It has also been said that Rockstar's plans dating back to the pandemic include a port of Max Payne 3 following the release of GTA 4, with Tez2 noting that with Remedy's Max Payne 1 and 2 remake currently in the works, all three releases could be bundled together for a re-release of the entire series.

  • It is unknown how much Rockstar will change GTA 4 with the port. The GTA Trilogy saw a significant visual overhaul of the classic PS2 era GTA titles, albeit with numerous bugs, and was developed by third-party developer Grove Street Games before being patched by now-first-party Rockstar studio Video Games Deluxe. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption's current generation port received only minor updates, including support for 4K 60FPS and ultrawide monitors, as well as the removal of the multiplayer mode.
