According to reports, Jon M. Chu, who directed 2024's Wicked, will direct the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's hit co-op title Split Fiction, which will star Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney.

The details:

  • As reported by Variety, Sweeney will not only play one of the film's protagonists, Zoe or Mio, but will also serve as an executive producer. Chu, who also directed Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians, will collaborate on the project with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, best known for their work on Deadpool and Wolverine.

  • Last month, it was reported that several major Hollywood studios were bidding to acquire the rights to Split Fiction. Story Kitchen, a media company known for bringing game IPs such as Vampire Survivors and Just Cause to the big screen, was said to be putting together the package deal, which included writers, directors, and cast members.

  • Split Fiction isn't the only Hazelight game set to get a movie adaptation. A film based on It Takes Two, Split Fiction's 2021 predecessor, is also in the works at Story Kitchen. However, little is known about the project beyond the involvement of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions, with Hazelight's Josef Fares stating that he doesn't "know what's going on" with the film.
