According to reports, Hazelight's latest co-op title Split Fiction is already being adapted into a movie, with "multiple top Hollywood studios" bidding for the rights.

The details:

  • As reported by Variety, media company Story Kitchen, best known for its work on video game adaptations such as Sonic the Hedgehog, is currently assembling writers, directors, and cast members for a Split Fiction film as a package deal.

  • According to the publication, a number of "top Hollywood studios" are currently interested in acquiring the film's rights and are engaged in a "bidding war." There isn't much else known about the project, and Hazelight and Story Kitchen have yet to respond to Variety's request for comments.

  • Split Fiction has been a huge success for Hazelight, being met with critical acclaim and selling over two million copies in its first week, which is impressive considering that a single copy allows two players to play the game.

  • Hazelight's previous title, It Takes Two, is also set to be adapted into a film and a TV series. Since 2022, little has been revealed about the plans, but Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's company Seven Bucks Productions has signed on to the film, suggesting he may be involved in some way. Meanwhile, Hazelight founder Josef Fares told Eurogamer in February that he doesn't “know what's going on" with the adaptations.
