Screenshots showing off Rare’s now-cancelled Xbox title Everwild have been shared online by a former artist at the studio, giving the public their first-ever look at the actual game.

The details:

  • Originally announced in 2019, Everwild was set to be a new fantasy IP for legendary UK developer Rare. However, over the years, little was revealed about the project outside of some animated teaser trailers until it was officially canned amid Microsoft’s project cancellations and layoffs in June of this year.
  • As spotted by MP1st, a former developer has now shared the first-ever in-game screenshots of Everwild, showing off its UI elements, such as its settings menu and inventory, and the player's character standing in various stylized environments reminiscent of the aforementioned trailers.
  • While the screenshots don’t reveal too much, the inventory notably mentions the ability to carry seeds, plants, tools, figments, and mosaics. This suggests that the game may have had a farming system, but the animated trailers show that nature played a large role, so the character may have used the items differently.
