All PlayStation Portal owners can finally select PS5 games directly from the cloud without requiring the use of a PS5 console.

The details:

  • Starting from November 5 at 6 p.m. PT / November 6 at 2 a.m. GMT, PlayStation Plus Premium members will be able to stream select digital PS5 games from their own personal library, as well as hundreds of compatible games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. According to Sony, 2,793 games will support cloud streaming, including major titles such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Fortnite.
  • The update will also introduce a new home screen that allows users to choose between Remote Play with a PS5 console, Cloud Streaming, and a PlayStation Store search tab. While cloud streaming will require the highest-paid tier of PlayStation Plus, Remote Play will remain free for all Portal owners.
  • Originally launching in 2023, the PlayStation Portal was praised for its hardware, retaining the form of a PS5 DualSense controller with a high-quality screen placed in between the two grips. However, its reliance on a PS5 console limited its use heavily, making it difficult for players to use the device portably. Now, users can stream games from anywhere with a high-speed connection or use it as a separate device to play with someone using the main PS5 console.
