Sony and Guerrilla Games have announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new tactical co-op action spin-off for PS5 and PC set in the world of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

The details:

  • As revealed in a PlayStation Blog post, Horizon Hunters Gathering lets up to three players become Hunters tasked with protecting a world threatened by deadly machines. "Combat is tactical, reactive, and deeply skill-based, building on the tactical precision of the Horizon games while embracing the dynamics of team play," game director Arjan Bak said. "The foundation of Horizon Hunters Gathering centers around challenging and replayable hunts."
  • The core experience is built around challenging, replayable hunts that play out across multiple modes. Machine Incursion is billed as a high‑intensity mission where waves of machines pour from underground gateways before a final boss encounter. Meanwhile, Cauldron Descent is a longer, multi-stage dungeon-style trial filled with randomized rooms and various rewards.
  • Players choose from a growing roster of uniquely skilled Hunters, each with distinct melee or ranged weapons and playstyles, and can further define their role by selecting classes such as tank, support, or tactician, then layering on a roguelite perk system that offers randomized perks, weapon upgrades, and stat boosts to craft different builds on each run.
  • At launch, players will be able to take on missions either in solo play alongside NPC allies or in online co-op, although Guerrilla has confirmed that only co-op will be available during upcoming public playtests on PS5 and PC.
