It has been reported that now-defunct PlayStation studio Bluepoint Games pitched a remake of Bloodborne to Sony in early 2025, but the project was rejected by the game's original developer, FromSoftware.

The details:

  • According to a Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, Bluepoint approached Sony with a pitch to remake the beloved PS4 title after its live-service God of War project was cancelled in January 2025. However, despite support from Sony, developer FromSoftware pushed back against the project, though no reasoning behind the decision has been revealed.
  • Following the rejection of the Bloodborne remake pitch, Bluepoint reportedly tried pitching several other projects, including an updated version of its 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off. Sony would decline the pitches due to concerns surrounding the resources available among its studios, which were impacted by layoffs and project cancellations due to financial issues last year.
  • Last year, former Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shuhei Yoshida theorized that FromSoftware president and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki "really, really loved Bloodborne" but, despite having a potential interest in an updated version, "doesn't want anyone else to touch” the game. As a result, Bloodborne has remained a PS4 exclusive, with a locked 30FPS frame rate even when played on the more powerful PS5.
  • Bluepoint was shuttered February 19, 2026, after Sony scrapped its God of War project and failed to find the developer something new to work on. The company, which was acquired by PlayStation in 2021, had not released a single title since its critically acclaimed remake of FromSoftware’s Demon’s Souls the year prior, instead providing co-development support for other first-party games.
