Sony delists hundreds of "shovelware" games from the PlayStation Store

Sony has continued its crackdown on low‑quality PlayStation Store releases, delisting hundreds of shovelware games, including “hits” such as Jesus Simulator.

The details:

  • As first spotted by trophy‑tracking community PSNProfiles (via Push Square), Sony has quietly pulled hundreds of games from its digital storefront by publishers GoGame Console Publisher, VRCForge Studios, and Welding Byte. The companies are best known for low-quality releases that rely heavily on using pre-made assets, AI, and misleading marketing designed to trick users into believing that the games are similarly named successful indie titles.
  • Among the delisted titles are several games with names designed to include popular keywords, mainly “simulators” such as Urban Driver Simulator and Jesus Simulator.
  • This latest purge follows Sony’s earlier decision in January to wipe over 1,000 shovelware games belonging to just one developer on the PlayStation Store, which once bloated the “new” and “coming soon” sections of the storefront. Players have also complained about the continued rise of games designed entirely to pad out trophy collections with simple gameplay and easy-to-acquire platinum trophies.
