Skate's "biggest playtest update" will arrive in July ahead of its upcoming Summer launch

EA has announced that the biggest playtest yet for its upcoming Skate reboot will kick off at the start of next month, with the game “just months away” from launch.

The details:

  • Earlier this year, EA’s Full Circle shared that it was aiming to release Skate into early access by the end of 2025. Now, the studio has provided an update confirming that it will arrive this summer, stating that it is “just months away.”

  • However, ahead of the launch, a playtest will be held that begins on July 2 and is open to all registered Skate insiders. Those wanting to participate have until June 27 to sign up as an insider, with invitations to the playtest being released in waves.

  • The playtest will include all of the features from past builds, but also new “upgrades, changes, fixes, and performance improvements” as part of the 0.27 update. Among the new features are a boost to pedestrian numbers, improved lighting, shadows, and textures, more detailed environments, new missions, and larger lobbies supporting 150 players.

  • Back in April, Full Circle revealed that Skate would require an internet connection at all times to play, which was met with backlash from fans. This followed a controversy surrounding its monetization, as EA added an in-game store selling cosmetics with premium currency during an earlier alpha build.
