Popular game modding site Nexus Mods has been sold after 24 years, sparking concern over new ownership

Nexus Mods, the largest video game modding website, has new ownership after its founder stepped down after 24 years due to health concerns.
The details:
In a new statement, Nexus Mods founder Dark0ne shared that he had been feeling burnt out and suffering from "stress-related health issues" as a result of his role as the owner of the site since 2001. He explained that he never set out to make Nexus a business but instead a place for modders to host their work so it was not lost to time, but as it grew, it became a "regular source of anxiety" after having to stay active to fix issues that popped up for over two decades.
Dark0ne confirmed that with his departure, the site has been handed over to a new ownership team but made it clear that little to nothing would be changing from a user perspective. However, not much was revealed about the deal or those involved other than their first names—Victor, Marinus, and Nikola—and links to their personal Nexus Mods accounts.
Unsurprisingly, some users were concerned about the platform’s new unknown owners, prompting an investigation into who they might be. Over on ResetEra, users RandomlyRandom67 and Chocobalt did some digging, eventually coming to the conclusion that the site had been acquired by Chosen, a gaming growth business.
Seemingly confirming suspicions, all three names appear among the company’s staff list, with Marinus stating in a post that the team had been working with Nexus Mods. Also among the list is Nikolaj Nyholm, the founder of Danish esports organization Astralis, who is listed as a founder and investor.
The revelation has led to further concerns, as not only is Chosen focused on growing companies, but its CEO and founder, Victor Folman, has also released a “monetization cheat sheet” that includes mention of NFTs, in-app purchases, play-to-earn models, and other controversial methods.
