Sega has confirmed that a follow-up to 2014’s Alien: Isolation is in the works at Creative Assembly, with Al Hope set to return to his role as director.

The details:

  • As part of Isolation's 10th anniversary celebrations, Hope revealed that a sequel was in the works in a message to fans on X. “On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear,” Hope wrote. “Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.”

  • Alien: Isolation is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror titles of the last decade, as it does an excellent job of capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 Alien film in gameplay form. Set 15 years after the events of Alien, the player takes on the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, as she investigates her mother's disappearance while avoiding a Xenomorph inhabiting a space station.

  • Given that the project is still in early stages of development, its release is likely to be years away, and we will not receive any official details or a trailer for quite some time. Until then, fans have begun to consider how today's more powerful hardware will enable smarter Xenomorph AI and more immersive visuals.
