Striking Quantic Dream developers warn Star Wars Eclipse could be cancelled if planned layoffs go ahead

Workers at Quantic Dream have walked out in protest at plans to cut 115 staff, with striking developers claiming the move would effectively doom Star Wars Eclipse, a game they say is already struggling under chronic understaffing and mismanagement.

The details:

  • Staff at Quantic Dream went on strike on June 25, with workers opposing a redundancy plan tied to the collapse of Spellcasters Chronicles, the studio's 3D MOBA that launched on February 26, 2026 and was shut down on May 20, just three months after release, due to a severe lack of players. The game had been in development for eight years.
  • The strike was deliberately timed to coincide with a reported visit from a Lucasfilm delegation checking in on the progress of Star Wars Eclipse, with workers hoping the timing would maximise pressure on studio leadership.
  • Striking developers claim Star Wars Eclipse is in a precarious state regardless of the layoffs, citing shifting creative direction, poor internal communication, and frequent changes that have resulted in significant amounts of work being scrapped. One developer, ThΓ©o, said: "We believe that, as things stand, the game literally cannot be finished if the redundancy plan is implemented as currently scheduled."
  • While Quantic Dream has maintained the cuts will primarily affect the Spellcasters Chronicles team, striking workers argue their skills are directly applicable to Eclipse and that the project needs more resources, not fewer. Developers describe the game as "understaffed" and say very little progress has been made over recent months.
  • Quantic Dream first revealed Star Wars Eclipse in December 2021. The game has not had a public update in years and has no confirmed release window.
