Star Wars Eclipse is still "years off from completion," report claims
Quantic Dream

It has been claimed that after four years following its announcement, Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse is still far away from being completed, with NetEase hesitant to invest further resources to speed up development.

The details:

  • Originally announced in 2021 alongside a CGI trailer, Star Wars Eclipse will take place in the High Republic era of the franchise, which was explored in the more recent sequel trilogy of movies. Not much has been revealed about the game, but Quantic Dream has confirmed that it will offer players the choice to decide the outcome of its storylines.
  • According to a new report from Insider Gaming, an anonymous source has claimed that despite updates from the studio confirming that development had not been impacted by NetEase’s layoffs over the past few years, the game is still "years off from completion.” Another source echoed this, stating that it has made “very little progress over months.”
  • It’s said that expanding its workforce could speed up development drastically, but that NetEase is hesitant to spend more than it is without a long-term vision in place. Now, eyes on Quantic Dream’s free-to-play multiplayer title Spellcasters Chronicles, which launched earlier this year. NetEase expects the game to bring in decent enough revenue to continue to fund Eclipse’s development. “At this stage, the long-term outlook is less driven by creative capabilities and more by financial viability,” a source said. “Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment.”
