Publisher Paradox Interactive has announced that Double Eleven’s Prison Architect 2 has been delayed yet again, less than a month before its expected launch, after running into technical issues.

The details:

  • The delay was announced in a new blog post from Paradox, which confirmed that the game will now be released on September 3, 2024, rather than May 7. The publisher claims that memory usage issues have resulted in unstable performance and that PCs that meet the minimum specifications have encountered additional technical difficulties.

  • The four additional months will be used to address crashes, freezes, and other performance issues with an improved memory system. On April 25, Double Fine will also host a stream with its developers to discuss the delay and what improvements they plan to make to the game's systems.

  • Prison Architect 2 was originally scheduled to be released on March 26 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, but it was delayed in February to iron out bugs and improve optimization. Paradox is also running into issues with Cities: Skylines 2, which was released in October to negative reviews after the publisher warned players of poor performance prior to its launch. Since then, it has been announced that DLC development will be halted until next year in order to address its technical shortcomings.
