Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are coming to Nintendo Switch alongside a new Pokémon Presents
The Pokémon Company

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will be available on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on February 27, 2026, coinciding with the franchise's 30th anniversary and a special Pokémon Presents livestream.

The details:

  • The two Game Boy Advance titles will launch on February 27 immediately following the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents presentation, which will air at 6 a.m. PST / 2 p.m. GMT / 3 p.m. CET on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels.
  • However, the Red and Green remakes will not be available via Nintendo Switch Online, instead being sold separately for $19.99 each on the eShop. While unconfirmed, it’s believed that the decision to re-release the titles as individual products is due to NSO likely not supporting Pokémon Home, which can be used to transfer Pokémon across several generations.
  • Nintendo has confirmed that neither game will offer online play, but players will be able to battle via a reworked version of FireRed and LeafGreen’s “Wireless Club” mode if they are on the same network.
