PlayStation has confirmed that Dark Outlaw Games, a first-party studio founded by former Treyarch veteran Jason Blundell in 2025, has closed its doors amid company-wide cost-cutting measures.

The details:

  • As first reported by Bloombergโ€™s Jason Schreier via Bluesky, the studio has now been shut down alongside layoffs affecting "around 50 peopleโ€ in the US and UK, and Sony is now planning to move away from the mobile gaming market entirely aside from supporting titles it announced in the past.
  • Sony has now officially confirmed the cuts in a statement to PC Gamer, explaining that it had made "several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability." "As part of this process, there were limited workforce reductions across select teams. We greatly appreciate the contributions of all those impacted,โ€ the company spokesperson said.
  • Following his departure from Activision, Call of Duty Zombies legend Blundell formed Deviation Games under PlayStation in 2020 alongside long-time collaborator Dave Anthony, which he would later leave in 2022, with the studio being closed in March 2024. A year later, he announced the formation of Dark Outlaw, once again under Sony, which was working on an undisclosed project.
