Landfall and Aggro Crab, also known as Landcrab, the two studios behind the recent indie hit "Peak," have stated that they would rather players pirate the game than play its popular "microtransaction-riddled" Roblox knockoff.

The details:

  • Back in June, Landcrab released Peak, a game in which you must hike to the summit of a mountain with your friends while carrying limited resources. Peak's casual-friendly and fun design resulted in the game becoming a massive hit, ranking among the most played titles on Steam, as Landcrab continues to introduce new features requested by fans.
  • Unfortunately, as with any popular indie release, copycats have emerged, with "Cliff" becoming popular on Roblox, with over 64,000 "favorites." Cliff is described as a "challenging climbing game where even the smallest mistake can be your downfall," in which players must climb to the summit. Not only does the game's blurb sound a lot like Peak's, but the artwork also looks remarkably similar.
  • Cliff developer PewStudio has stated that Peak is an "inspiration" for the game, but many, including Landcrab, have labeled it a rip-off, citing some striking similarities in their gameplay mechanics and pre-game lobby. "tbh would rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff," Aggro Crab wrote on X.
  • Cliff, as Aggro Crab mentioned, features a number of microtransactions, allowing players to buy anything from a pet parrot to a golden apple that keeps you alive for the low price of 129 Robux, Roblox's premium currency purchased with real-world money.
