Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the Switch 2 will be delayed in Canada, following last week's delay in the US, as it assesses the potential impact of US President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The details:

  • Shortly after its Direct presentation last week, the Japanese gaming giant confirmed that pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the US would be delayed beyond April 9. According to the company's statement to Gamespot, the delay was made to "assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," but the console will still launch as expected on June 5.

  • Nintendo has now announced that pre-orders will be delayed in Canada, with no new date set as of yet. It did not say whether the decision was directly influenced by Trump's recent tariff fiasco, instead stating that it is to "align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S."

  • President Trump imposed heavy trade tariffs on a number of countries last week, including China and other nations where hardware is often manufactured. For example, the majority of Nintendo hardware is manufactured in Vietnam, which has been hit with 46% tariffs. Aubrey Quinn, senior vice president of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), discussed the impact of tariffs on the gaming industry in an interview with Game File, stating that they could have a "real and detrimental impact" with higher consumer costs, implying that the $450 price tag for the Switch 2 could rise to $600.
