NieR's director, producer, and composer are working on a new project that may be unrelated to the series
Yosuke Saito, the producer of the NieR series, has revealed that he, director Yoko Taro, and composer Keiichi Okabe have collaborated on an upcoming project but did not confirm whether it is related to the franchise.
The details:
In a recent interview with former Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi in Famitsu (via Gematsu), Saito said, “I’ve been talking about wanting to do something with Yoko and Okabe for some time now. I’ll have something a bit more put-together to say in the not-too-distant future, so please stay tuned.” The producer refused to state whether the project was related to NieR, saying “It might be NieR, it might not be NieR.”
Earlier this year, a tweet from Yoko Taro led fans to believe NieR 3 was on the way, although many noted that "r3incarnationan" could have referred to the mobile title that was discontinued in April. However, a game will certainly be released at some point, as Saito previously stated that the series would continue as long as Taro "is alive."
The most recent full NieR release, Automata, arrived in 2017 and introduced the series to a much larger audience than the original 2010 title. Although Replicant, a remake of the first game's PlayStation 3 version, was released in 2021 to critical acclaim, fans have been waiting for news of a third installment in the series.
