Netflix confirms Horizon Zero Dawn is being adapted as a show

Netflix is developing a series based on action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn with the showrunner of The Umbrella Academy, Steve Blackman.

The series: It's early days for the show but at least fans know it's coming.

• Once Blackman is done with the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, he'll shift focus to create two new series: Horizon Zero Dawn and an original project named Orbital.
• "Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world," said Blackman. "My writing partner on this, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable IP into a series for all types of viewers."
• On potential connective tissue with The Umbrella Academy and his other upcoming series, he said: "I gravitate to characters who are grounded and relatable but exist on the fringe. Outliers who struggle to find their place in a world of conformity and structure."

On the horizon: The IP was developed by Guerrilla Games.

• While not much was confirmed in the interview, Blackman confirmed that "Aloy will be a main character" and that the show will be created with "the newest technologies available."
• It was reported in June 2022 that the series will be called Horizon 2074 and will be told through two timelines: the timeline seen in the game franchise and when "things begin to fall."
• Storywise, Horizon Zero Dawn follows a young hunter named Aloy who lives in a world occupied by machines. Players progress through the open world to discover new locations and complete side quests along the way.
• A sequel titled Horizon Forbidden West was released in February 2022 and the franchise has already been adapted as a comic book and a board game.
